Sunshine, Sidewalk Chalk, and Smiles

A community project

By Miranda Gonzalez, the Mac Kid publisher for the Mansfield to Burleson area in North Texas March 26, 2020

With everyone staying home to flatten the curve, it can be hard to think of ways to keep your children busy and entertained. Especially when the sun is shining and all they want to do is get out of the house!

Girls In Action has come up with a fun way to not only get outside and have some fun but also to spread joy to your neighbors while still maintaining social distance.

They call it the Sunshine, Sidewalk Chalk, and Smiles Project, and it is exactly what it sounds like! Get outside with some sidewalk chalk and create beautiful and uplifting pictures and messages. If you don't have chalk, you can even collect leaves and twigs and use them to create your masterpiece.

On their Facebook page, they also recommend bringing chalk with you if you go on a walk around the neighborhood and decorating your neighbor's driveways as a way to say hello (if you know them, of course.)

After you create your masterpiece, share it with the group to spread the smiles to others as well.

You can find out more about the Sunshine, Sidewalk Chalk, and Smiles Project on their Facebook group page.
